Agree the practical arrangements
Discuss the training plan, scheduled teaching and the learning time the apprentice needs. Put the agreed arrangements into the working calendar and consider what cover or flexibility is required. Clear expectations reduce avoidable clashes between work and study.
Find opportunities to practise
Look for activities that let the apprentice use a developing skill, with an appropriate level of support. The opportunity should fit the role and learning plan. Ask the apprentice to explain what they are learning and the kind of practice or feedback that would help.
Ask about understanding
A useful conversation goes beyond whether an activity is complete. Ask what the learner understands differently, where they are uncertain and what they would do next. This helps connect progress with capability rather than a count of finished tasks.
Use reviews to make adjustments
Bring specific observations to progress reviews. Discuss what is working, which opportunities are missing and whether priorities need to change. Let KBC know promptly about changes in the role, employment or circumstances that could affect the programme.
Take one question into your next conversation. Discuss it with a tutor, coach or colleague and consider the evidence that would help you answer it.
